The Importance of Education in Our Lives
Our 5th graders led a powerful school assembly about “The Importance of Education in Our Lives”. They shared how education shapes their future and the values that guide them. The assembly began with the raising of the flag. This time, the students with the highest grades and best behaviour were in charge of carrying it. Then, our students recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Guatemalan Flag. Even our youngest students show their respect, standing with their right hand over their heart. It is an emotional moment every time.
After that, we enjoyed a Word Parade, where a group of students walked around the school yard with signs highlighting the values and principles that shape their lives and learning. This opened up conversation among the children and the audience.
Angel and Sherlyn, our masters of ceremony, continued the assembly. They spoke about the importance of education in their lives. They addressed these themes in a clear and uncomplicated manner.
They pointed out that the School of Hope is a safe space where every student has the opportunity to learn and dream big. They described the school as a stepping stone and a bridge to the future, giving the audience a few examples of how it helps students connect where they are today with what they want to achieve in the future. Their words inspired the whole school!
They also reminded us that teachers should not only be seen as lesson-givers but also as guides for their future. The teachers received this with great pleasure, feeling delighted to hear how their efforts have such a meaningful impact in the lives of their students.
