Education

Welcome to the School of Hope

We serve 400 students in Jocotenango, Guatemala, with admissions focused on reaching those who would not otherwise have access to these opportunities. Many of our students face challenges tied to financial hardship, which is why we focus on the whole child, not just academics. Through hands-on learning, early access to technology, and English instruction, we equip students with practical skills that open doors to future jobs and help break the cycle of poverty. Programs in art and music give students space to express themselves and support their mental health, while daily movement builds confidence and overall wellbeing. Across all grades, life skills classes provide age appropriate guidance on healthy habits, relationships and personal wellbeing.

Join our Amigos program and support a class as they learn and grow.

You will follow their journey and see the impact of your support through regular updates. Our Amigos make this work possible, from books and teacher salaries to daily meals. With no government funding, your support is essential.

Becoming an Amigo is more than a monthly gift. It is a chance to connect with a classroom and follow their journey over time.

English Classes

When our students learn a second language early, they build stronger communication skills and greater cognitive flexibility, setting them up for future education and job opportunities.

Physical Education

Regular physical activity helps our students build strong bodies, improve focus, and support their overall mental and emotional wellbeing.

Project Based Learning

We use project based learning to create hands on opportunities that allow our students, including those with unique learning challenges, to actively demonstrate their knowledge.

STEM

In our STEM classes, students explore in our science lab while building problem solving and critical thinking skills for the future.

Art

We incorporate art whenever possible, creating a space where our students can express themselves, especially those who have faced challenges or difficult experiences, and it is a tool proven to support mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Music

Many of our students have musical talents, and we create space for them to explore, develop, and grow.

Life-Skills

Our goal is to help students break the cycle of poverty by building age appropriate life skills that support healthy habits, communication, and decision making

Literacy

Access to strong literacy development in Guatemala is limited, which is why we focus on building a love of reading early through our library and individualized instruction that meets each student’s needs.

Technology

Because of the generosity of our donors, our students have access to computers and tablets, helping them build essential technology skills for future jobs while allowing us to better individualize instruction.

“Prepa A it is a calm class; they were quite shy during the holiday school programme, but little by little they have begun to open up. Each day they participate more, show greater spontaneity, and enjoy sharing their thoughts.”
