El Carnavalito: A Celebration Without Borders, Uniting UK Families and Guatemalan Students π¬πΉπ¬π§π
Milena is the Director and Franchisor of El Recreo Spanish. She grew up in Colombia, immersed in a world where language was more than just words. It was a bridge to connection, culture, and belonging.
Years later, as a mother of three living in the UK, she felt a powerful desire to pass on the gift of bilingualism to her children. Guided by her belief in the power of language and community, she embarked on a mission to create a space where families could come together to nurture not only language skills, but also identity, confidence, and meaningful connection.
From that vision, El Recreo Spanish was born.

Now, Milena proudly offers Spanish classes across multiple locations, including London, Kent, Bournemouth, Edinburgh and online. She has created a great selection of Spanish activity books for children that blend learning with play. She supports families beyond the classroom too. She has an online course for parents raising bilingual children, filled with practical tips, inspiration, and expert guidance to support language learning at home. Alongside this, she has created flashcards and downloadable resources to help families introduce and reinforce Spanish in fun, engaging ways.
This March, El Recreo Spanish is hosting El Carnavalito, a vibrant celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Latin America and Spain. And this year is going to be even more exciting. They have chosen us as the charity they want to support. Throughout the month they will be inviting parents and supporters to donate for the School of Hope through a Fundraising Page.
