Career Fair / Feria de carreras
In March, four schools visited the School of Hope to take part in our Career Fair organised by Ilse, our educational counsellor from the Further Education Team. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure that our 9th‑grade students are better prepared when the time comes to choose their path beyond the School of Hope. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about the academic options available.
During the events, our students learnt more about each programme, its area of specialisation, possible career fields, and which university degrees they can pursue afterwards. They also hear directly from teachers, what each programme involves, the classes students take, how is the structure, and the skills they will develop.
At this age, young people often have many questions, what each programme is about, what they will learn, where they can work, whether there are job opportunities, what they can study at university, whether it is easy or difficult, and what classes they will take. The Career Fair helps answer these questions and, most importantly, supports students in discovering the programme that best aligns with their interests, goals, and dreams.
En marzo, cuatro colegios se presentaron en la escuela para participar la Feria de Carreras organizada por Ilse, nuestra orientadora educativa de nuestro departamento de educación superior. El propósito de esta iniciativa es ayudar a que nuestros estudiantes de 9no grado se sientan mejor preparados al momento de elegir sus próximos pasos más allá de la Escuela de la Esperanza. La feria les brinda una valiosa oportunidad para explorar las distintas rutas académicas disponibles.
Durante los eventos, nuestros estudiantes aprendieron más sobre cada carrera, su área de especialización, los posibles campos laborales y los estudios universitarios que pueden seguir después. También escucharon directamente a los profesores sobre en qué consiste cada carrera, las clases que se imparten, cómo es la estructura de estudios y las habilidades que desarrollarán.
A esta edad, los jóvenes suelen tener muchas preguntas: de qué trata cada carrera, qué van a aprender, dónde pueden trabajar, si existen oportunidades laborales, qué pueden estudiar en la universidad, si es fácil o difícil y qué clases deberán cursar. La Feria de Carreras ayuda a responder estas preguntas y, lo más importante, acompaña a los estudiantes a descubrir la carrera que mejor se alinea con sus intereses, metas y sueños.

Alongside the Career Fair, we always hold a preparatory workshop where students are taught the difference between peritos and bachilleratos, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. Most importantly, they are encouraged to reflect on the responsibility that comes with choosing a career, since that decision plays a key role in shaping their personal, professional, and working future.
Over the years, we have seen many benefits: young people are better informed, more aware of the decisions they are about to make, more knowledgeable about the different career options available, and more conscious of the skills required for each one.
Junto con la feria de carreras siempre se realiza un taller previo donde se le explica la diferencia entre peritos y bachilleratos, las ventajas y desventajas. Pero sobre todo siempre se les anima a tomar conciencia sobre la responsabilidad que implica elegir una carrera, ya que con ello están marcando el éxito de su futuro personal, profesional y laboral.
Los beneficios que se han visto a lo largo de los años es que los jóvenes se muestran más informados, tienen mayor conciencia sobre las decisiones que van a tomar, conocen más sobre todas las posibles carreras y que habilidades se necesitan para cada una de ellas.
Visit to INFOUSAC / Visita a INFOUSAC
Our High School students who will graduate this year visited INFOUSAC as part of their vocational guidance process. The purpose was to learn more about the University of San Carlos of Guatemala and explore different university degree options.
This activity gave our students the opportunity to get to know the university’s central campus. Seeing the facilities, experiencing the university environment, and observing the large number of students on campus helps broaden their perspective. It allows them to realize that they are not alone in this process. Many others are also working hard everyday to improve themselves. It shows them that attending university is not something out of reach.
This initiative also allows them to hear from other young people who speak with excitement and motivation about their chosen fields of study, which in turn inspires them. It helps them learn about the wide variety of degree programs offered, their duration, and the benefits each one provides.
Nuestros estudiantes de High School que se graduaran este año realizaron una visita a INFOUSAC como parte de su proceso de orientación vocacional. El propósito de la visita fue conocer más sobre la Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala y explorar distintas opciones de carreras universitarias.
Esta actividad dio a los estudiantes la oportunidad de conocer el campus Central de la universidad. Ver las instalaciones, experimentar la dinámica universitaria, observar la gran cantidad de jóvenes estudiantes les ayuda a ampliar su perspectiva y darse cuenta que no están solos en este proceso. Hay muchos otros jovenes que también están esforzándose por superarse. Esto les muestra que asistir a la universidad no es algo imposible.
Esta iniciativa, les permite también escuchar de otros jóvenes que hablan con ilusión y motivación sobre la carrera que eligieron lo cual los inspira durante todas sus actividades. Además, les ayuda a conocer la gran cantidad de carreras que ofrecen, su duración y los beneficios de cada una de ellas.
It's initiatives like these that highlight the importance of our Amigos, whose generosity not only supports our students' education but also ensures they are well-prepared for the next steps in their academic and professional journeys.
We can’t wait to see the incredible paths our students will choose as they embark on new adventures beyond the School of Hope. thanks to your support, we may soon have a future artist, chef, economist, or doctor out in the world, turning their dreams into reality.
