Supporting our students through regular nutrition appointments 🥗🥦🍎

Health, nutrition and well-being are an essential part of our mission at the School of Hope.  In our community, where access to even basic healthcare services is limited and for many families, a daily nutritious meal is not always guaranteed. Our work to protect the well-being of our students becomes even more urgent. Part of our work is truly understanding each student’s  circumstances and addressing all the challenges that go beyond the classroom.

Every day, we work to ensure our students receive regular health checks and ongoing nutritional assessments. These appointments allow us to closely monitor our students, identify and address deficiencies, and support them improve their overall health and weight.  These efforts are all part of our holistic approach. We believe that when children feel well and are well-nourished, they can concentrate on their studies, engage more in the classroom and get greater opportunities in the future.

This month, we had three students, Linzi, Marcos and Lupita who required personalised nutritional support. While they have the same goal to address low weight, each case came with its own set of unique needs. For one students, the challenge goes beyond simply gaining weight the texture of the food matters. Their meal must be served in finely shredded portions easy to chew and digest. For others, the focus is more on adjusting portion sizes and introducing a more balanced diet.

We are also grateful to have the support of an external nutritionist, thanks to our partnership with “Proyecto Can”. Her guidance has been valuable in providing personalised care and support for Lupita, Marcos and Linzi. Also she has been working closely with our kitchen team, offering training and introducing more nutritious and balanced recipes.
